Example email/letter to MP on dangerous bills
EXAMPLE EMAIL OR LETTER
Your email does not need to be formal and sending copy paste emails gets copy paste responses. Send a short personal email along with the link to the open letter. We need MPs to address the fact that experts in safeguarding, child protection, social work, automated decision-making systems, law and AI are raising these concerns and we want them to take actions – ask questions in Parliament or raise concerns with the Secretary of State – on your behalf.
(If you email do not forget to include your address.)
I am a parent and am deeply worried about the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill and the Data Use and Access Bill and what this will mean to my child and my family.
I do not consent for everyone working with me or my child to report on us to authorities and share information about us – as the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill would mean. I do not understand why the government would want to give everyone from sports coaches, youth group leaders, teachers and so on more powers than I have as a parent to decide what is – or isn’t – a concern for my child. What gives them the right to decide this? What if the information they share about us isn’t accurate? Or just that they have different views to me on what is and isn’t appropriate?
The Data Use and Access Bill removes vital parts of mine and my child’s data protection rights for processing any of this information. I do not want information about her to be processed if it harms her rights or freedoms and I do not want dangerous automated decision-making systems used to profile either of us. I do not understand how the government could possibly think this was a good idea!
The government is claiming that all of the above is necessary for safeguarding yet experts in social work, child protection, safeguarding, use of AI and automated decision making systems and law are warning that this is dangerous for children. Please see a link below to their letter – I share these concerns. Please can you read it and let me know your thoughts. What steps can you take to represent me in this matter?
